TANNER'S PAGE

Legacy2.jpg

This page belongs to Tanner.  He is a beautiful and sweet QH yearling that needs a lot of prayers right now...

We call the horse Tanner.  This cute little QH colt suffered a serious leg in his stall which resulted in multiple fractures to the splint and cannon bones, and the owner could not take care of him.  We were his last chance!  He needs lots of prayers right now...we have dedicated a page just for him.
Dr. Rexroth was out on 12/05 and took x-rays...he has multiple fractures to the splint bone and cannon bone.  The plan is to keep him in a very secure bandage for four weeks to see how of the bone will heal on its own, then the rest of the bone will need to be surgically removed.  Prognosis is still unknown at this point.  We will know more when more x-rays are taken the first week of January.  He doing well as far as eating and staying comfortable at this point.  It is a day by day thing.

UPDATE - 12/25/08 - It's been a long week for Tanner...he developed a deep infection due to the bone chips that have not reattached and he blew out three abscesses in 48 hours, one about six inches above his hock, one in his groin area, and one in his sheath...he's feeling better now that the pressure has been relieved, but we spent Christmas day with the vet!  Not what he wanted from Santa!  But he did get LOTS OF TREATS thanks to Amy Grim and the Stauffers.  Everyone is now very tired!  Thank you so much to Dr. Rexroth, Dr. McCann and Dr. Wilbert (who was out today on Christmas!) for all your help so far.  I have been repeatedly reminded of what a long, hard road it's gonna be for this guy, but that his disposition and his will to get better are strong and that is half the battle.  He has been such a good boy through all of this.  Tanner has another vet appointment set for 12/29...more to come.

UPDATE - JUNE 5 -TANNER IS DOING SO GREAT!  And wow is he growing like a weed.  He's really turning into a beautiful boy, and I swear he has the biggest horsie eyes I've ever seen!  He has healed up beautifully, and although his leg looks a little funny, it doesn't bother him at all.  Winston is his best buddy.  They are totally inseperable.

UPDATE 01/02/09 - Tanner's surgery is scheduled for January 14th.  I have my fingers crossed that he will pull through the surgery and recovery, which is going to be tricky for a while...but Dr. Bimes (the surgeon) is cautiously optimistic, so I'll take that right now!  Everyone at the clinic is pulling for him!!!

Tanner had his surgery on 01/14 and came home the next day!  It was a great success and Dr. Bimes was very happy with how it went!  He believes that if all goes well in the coming weeks, Tanner should make a FULL RECOVERY which is OUTSTANDING NEWS!!  He said he is very lucky for many reasons.  We are so greatful to everyone that has participated in treating this little colt.  He is a special boy...and I believe he knows how lucky he is.  I snapped a video clip of Tanner the evening after his surgery.  He was still a little groggy, but was happily resting in his stall at the clinic.  To view the video, click on the following link:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkeqP-DV084
