Bandida

Bandida's Story - Bandida is a nine year-old POA mix medium pony.  She's a real sweetie with a wonderful disposition.  Her story is very disturbing...she was EXTREMELY neglected for her entire life.

Bandida was discovered by AC4H on 09/07/07 at the New Holland Horse Sale in Lancaster County.  She had been tied to the back of the sale barn and abandoned there with no owner or responsible party around, likely because of her condition.  In fact, she was in such terrible condition she was not allowed to even enter the sale ring.  If a horse can't go through an auction ring, it must be really bad!  Essentially, Bandida had never or rarely been touched by human hands, and she had never seen a farrier.  The condition of her feet you see in the photos is a result of SEVERE neglect and there is NO EXCUSE for this.  Many people would have looked at her and not even imagined taking on the challenge of rehabiliting her.  AC4H picked her up and brought her to their farm.  Their farrier began working on her and he needed a saw to remove the toe on her hind feet they were THAT LONG.  She was very fearful and distrustful of people.  They worked with her for several months and then we came along and decided to take her on.  We are continuing her rehabilitation here at Hideaway Hill Farm.  Her feet are now almost normal.   Her hind end was very under-developed because she was unable to walk properly for so long.  She is gaining muscle and strength every day.  This girl has come a long way!  She is going to remain at Hideaway Hill Farm to be part of our educational program.   She's a lovely girl and we are blessed to have her!

LOOK AT ME NOW!

I'm learning how to stand nicely on the crossties....I don't mind because standing on the crossties means my daily grooming!

Look at my hind feet now!  They are almost normal!  I still need some heel, especially on the inside, but I'm getting there!

The pictures in the column below were all taken by AC4H right after she was saved, just before her first trim EVER.  This was EXTREME neglect.
